Many people with no working experience don’t know how to write a resume with no experience; if you’re one of them, here are the tips for you

Every one of us starts our career with little or no previous working experience, which is a common scenario in a corporate setting. However, writing a resume is the most challenging task for someone without working experience.

Writing a resume as a fresher or without experience is a bit trickier because you’ve to convince the employer that even without working experience, you’re a good fit for the role you’re applying for.

If you don’t have any experience and are concerned about writing a resume, don’t be! In this post, you’ll learn resume writing tips that will increase your chances of being hired even if you have no experience!

What Is A Resume?

A resume is a document that consists of your Career objective/summary, personal information, academic qualifications, skills, achievements, and work experience.

How important is a resume? This one-page (sometimes two or more for highly skilled and experienced) document is enough for the hiring managers to decide whether you’re a good fit for the role or not.

How To Write A Resume With No Experience

Inexperienced candidates easily become frustrated when they send hundreds of resumes without receiving a response. In addition to many other reasons, one of them is not writing a resume that attracts hiring managers.

So, how to write a resume with no experience that can impress the recruiters?

Let’s see the best tips!

  • Resume Format

Selecting the best resume format is crucial for freshers; many types of resume formats are available, but most of them are designed for experienced professionals.

So, which format to choose? The functional resume is the best format for freshers to showcase their skills and expertise. The common structure for a functional resume is :

  • Header
  • Career Objective/Summary
  • Educational Qualification
  • Skills

Let’s see what should be done in which section in detail.

  • Header

The header is the part where you include your photograph and personal & contact information like full name, phone number, email, and address. Make sure that the photograph is professional-looking and contact information is correct.

  • Career Objective/Summary

Though many people say a career objective/summary is optional. However, our expert recruiters recommend that freshers add this part, as it briefly explains your skills, ability, career goals, and experience/knowledge.

And yes, keep it as simple and short as possible. It should be between two to four sentences.

Here is a best example of a resume summary for warehouse jobs:

“ Highly-organized student/graduate seeking an entry-level Warehouse {position name} at {company name} where I can put my physical strength, time management, and other skills to work.”

  • Educational Qualification

Below the career objective, you can add your educational qualification. You don’t need to add the history of your academic levels. Add the latest/highest one. For example, if you’ve completed a Bachelor’s degree, you can skip adding a high school/college degree.

If you have any projects related to the position you’re applying for, you can add them to the academic qualification section, and it is a good idea to do that! You can also add any online/offline certifications in this section.

  • Experience!

You might think about what you’ll mention in this section as you don’t have any experience. Well, there are a lot of things you can add in the experience section. Your internship, volunteer work, part-time jobs, and extracurricular activities!

Yes, you can include all of these in the experience section. Because these will help the recruiter understand that you’re capable of executing your duties.

  • Skills

Skills matter the most for those who have no working experience. But which skills to write in a resume?

In the skill section, try to add relevant skills that employers seek. When hiring people with no experience, many employers consider recruiting those with the skillset they’re looking for.

Suppose you’re applying for a warehouse job role, two of the most sought skills in warehouse job roles are physical strength and time management. So make sure you include appropriate skills in your resume.

You should keep these things in mind while writing a resume with no previous working experience.

Should I Add GPA To My Resume?

There are various expert opinions on this. Some discourage and say it’s not mandatory or fully optional to mention your CGPA unless the hiring manager asks you to do so.

The other perspective is that if your CGPA is more than 3.5, you must include it on your resume; if it’s less, you shouldn’t.

It’s up to you. If you wish to include or remove CGPA, there’s nothing wrong with it, since you can always submit it to the employer.

Do I Need To Submit A Cover Letter With My Resume?

There’s no reason not to! Our recruiters always suggest that both freshers and experienced candidates submit cover letters and resumes. For those who have no professional experience, submitting a cover letter will be helpful.

How? They can persuasively explain why they would be an ideal match even though they have not worked in a similar role before.

Should My Resume Be One Page Or Two?

If you don’t have any prior working experience, your resume won’t end up on the second page unless you add many unnecessary topics or sentences. Moreover, the standard for freshers (even professionals) is a one-page resume, as many employers prefer one-page resumes.

A Few Extra Tips While Writing A Resume

As we’re almost done with our blog, let us give you a few extra tips for a good resume that can get you hired.

  • Job Description

Don’t apply for all job positions with having the same career objective on your resume. Try to edit and add something that will sound more natural and befitting.

  • Mistakes

Ensure that the resume is error-free from any grammar or spelling errors. Otherwise, recruiters may get a bad impression of you. In the worst scenario, they may reject your application.

  • Explain Your Activities

To add more weight to your resume, you can consider briefly explaining what you’ve done in extracurricular activities, part-time jobs or internships.
